Son narrateur, le Monstre, être non adapté à son époque, nous présente sa vie imaginaire, sa sempiternelle quête, au travers de tableaux cruels et touchants.
Quand les temps sont au mal il devrait être humain de faire le bien. Mais quand les temps sont au mal on ne peut plus faire le bien.
